Sage Scapes provides landscape maintenance whenever you need it.

Weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or spontaneously when you just need something done, we're available and willing to impress with our professional quality and affordable pricing.

We provide fertilization, pruning, yard edging, all-season clean ups, storm debris removal

Don't have the time, patience or equipment to properly fertilize your lawn?

We're here to help!

Do you err on the shabby side when it comes to pruning?  Don't sweat it.  Edward Scissorhands set the bar pretty high and you shouldn't feel pressured to live up to his standard.

Fortunately for you, old Eddie learned from the best: Sage Scapes!  We're expert pruners.  For a reasonable price and quicker than you expect we'll have your garden, shrubbery or trees pruned to perfection.

Do the edges of your yard resemble Doc Brown's hair in Back To The Future?  While that's a great movie and he was a brilliant scientist I'm not sure it qualifies him as a model for your yard.

Give us some quality time with your lawn.  Instead of Doc Brown think more Iceman from Top Gun (but with a better attitude).

Did the last rain or snow storm leave your precious kingdom looking like a scene out of a zombie movie?  We'll  restore order to the madness before you can say "the walking dead"!  Call us for any storm debris or general mess removal.  We're thankful we don't work in Florida like our friends at Dunedin Roofing!  Can you imagine cleaning up after hurricane Matthew?!  Or maybe your trees have littered your yard with countless amounts of leaves? They can sure be a hassle to rake up and get rid of.  It's even harder when there's some wind in the air!  Let us tackle your yard work for you.  We'll have it cleaned up and disposed of quickly and to your satisfaction.  Of course it is even harder in the fall!  In the fall it isn't just willow trees strewing seemingly millions of leaves around your home.

Don't be overwhelmed by the workload your yard or lawn places at your doorstep.  Bring in Sage Scapes Landscape Maintenance and Irrigation.  Our work is top notch.  We've got years of experience on our side and have learned from the best, like our friend who runs the best tree care service in Fort Smith.

Are you thinking of laying some fresh gravel throughout your property?  Have a garden needing some mulch? Let us do the work for you, when and where you want.  We would love to help you beautify your home.

Adding mulch to your yard or garden is a wonderful way to improve your landscaping.  Mulch is simple, cost-effective and has a multitude of benefits.  Here are a few:
  • Mulch helps prevent erosion: plain old dirt without any mulch is very vulnerable to the elements.  Wind and rain (and even your sprinklers) are constantly placing your home's soil at rick of erosion which causes many problems.  When your soil erodes it is depleted if vital nutrients for your plants like nitrogen and phosphorus.  A loss of these nutrients will result in a rapid decline in the health and beauty of your garden and landscape.  What's so great about mulch is that it does not only protect against the erosion of soil and its nutrients but mulch itself provides nutrients to your soil and plants as its broken down.  Weather, worms and other tiny creatures all contribute to the breakdown of mulch which creates more vitamins and nutrients to your garden.
  • Mulch slows evaporation:  a healthy layer of mulch over your soil will sharply increase your soil's ability to hold water for your plants to thrive off of.  Naked, unmulched soil is far more prone to unhealthy levels of water evaporation.  This not only leads to a potential waste of water but can leave your plants suffering from undernourishment.  The roots of your plants could even become exposed and further accelerate the process of moisture stress.  Mulch takes care of this problem by adding an extra layer  of security for the livelihood of your soil and plants.
  • Mulch fights weeds: believe it or not mulch can actually help tremendously with weed growth.  Technically we mean weed death, or lack of growth.  You don't want weeds, right?  Weeds are dependent on sunlight to germinate.  When they're buried beneath a decent level of mulch they're prevented from getting the sunlight they need to grow.  The important thing is to be sure and mulch sufficiently the first time or else you'll be back at it before you know it.  Those weeds are very persistent!
  • Mulch looks great:  most people would agree that a garden with an appropriate amount of mulch in the right places looks amazing.  The dark, solid color of the mulch provides an aesthetically pleasing contrast with the greens and blues and reds of your garden.  Mulch can be the backdrop you'll love but didn't know you needed until you experienced it yourself.
What about mulching a tree?  Mulch carries all the same benefits for your trees as it does for your garden and plants.  You may not believe it but you can actually kill your plants and even your trees if you apply mulch incorrectly.

The popular yet incorrect method of applying mulch is what we call the volcano method.  With the volcano method mulch is applied in the shape of a, you guessed it, volcano.  The mulch is stacked around and the up against the trunk of the tree forming the shape of a volcano with the tree coming out from the middle.  The problem with this approach is it forces too much moisture to gather around the trees root ball leading to an increased rate of fungus growth, rot, decay and eventually death for your tree.  Who would have thought something so destructive could come from something as innocent as mulch?  Sometimes in life you can have too much of a good thing.

Instead of forming a volcano of mulch around the trunk of your tree allow space for the tree to breathe, so to speak.  You can apply a decent layer of mulch in the area around the tree and over its roots but be sure to have the area immediate to the trunk covered in a thinner layer of mulch.  This will keep too much moisture from collecting at the trees base while bringing the benefits of mulch as described above.

You may be tempted to do the volcano mulching approaching because it really is aesthetically pleasing.  Unfortunately it isn't worth a dead tree which isn't aesthetically pleasing at all.  Sure some dead trees can have their own artistic appeal, but not when they've fallen into your living room or on your car.

The amount of mulch you use really depends on how often it is applied.  Mulch is most commonly done annually.  If this is the case then about two to three inches is plenty.  When you get into the five to six inch range with your mulch you're beginning to put your plants and trees at risk like we talked about.  If it's been a few years or you've just recently moved into a new home and the landscaping has seen better days then you can use a little extra, but not more than four to five inches total of mulch.

Even if your yard or garden isn't massive or large try and remember it is in fact it's own little ecosystem.  Your  yard is sensitive to what is added or taken away.  Remove a tree and there will be positive and negative effects. Add mulch correctly and there will be a plethora of benefits.  Do it carelessly and wrong and you're asking for trouble.
